How to Fix Push Notifications on 3.0
by lightmaster on Jul.04, 2009, under Guides, iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iTouch 1g, iTouch 2g
The Info:
A lot of people have been experiencing issues with push notifications and YouTube.app not working properly. Today, the iPhone Dev Team released the beta version of their fix for the issues. While the directions in the readme.txt are very easy to follow, the fix requires that you have a working and activated iPhone or iTouch. Most people who need to use this fix don’t have a second iPhone or iTouch to get the needed files from. So, to help everyone out, I’m writing my own guide and I will include the needed files. Hopefully, the Dev Team will releases the complete fix soon and the needed files will no longer be needed.
Warning: This is a beta. There may be unforeseen problems with this fix. Neither I (lightmaster) or any of the members of the Dev Team are responsible if anything happens to your iPhone/iTouch.
The Requirements:
- An iPhone or iTouch whose YouTube.app and/or Push Notifications aren’t working.
- A computer to use to copy files to your iPhone/iTouch.
- A WiFi network that allows SSH traffic (most networks do).
- A program to extract 7zip files. I recommend the program 7zip for Windows and The Unarchiver for Mac OS X
The Process:
- Download the fix: PushFix.7z.
- Extract the downloaded file.
- SSH into your iPhone/iTouch.
- Copy the files “inject”, “nimble”, “push-cert.bin”, “push-key.bin”, “youtube-cert.bin”, and “youtube-key.bin” to “/private/var/Keychains”.
- Change to the /var/Keychains directory with this command: “cd /var/Keychains”.
- Backup your old keychain with this command: “cp -fv ./keychain-2.db ./keychain-2.db.backup”
- Run this command to make “inject” executable: “chmod a+x ./inject”.
- Run “inject” with this command: “./inject”.
- If you have any apps that use push, uninstall them now.
- Reboot your iPhone/iTouch.
- Test YouTube.app to make sure its working. If its not working, restart the guide from the beginning.
- If YouTube.app worked, install an app that supports push notifications. A free app that supports push is Tap Tap Revenge: http://is.gd/1nrf4.
- If push notifications aren’t working, try the guide again. If push still isn’t working, send me an email at iPhoneGuidesSupport@gmail.com.
