How to Kick iPhone out of Recovery Mode (Windows)

by lightmaster on Jul.18, 2009, under Guides, iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iTouch 1g, iTouch 2g

The Info:

Sometimes your iPhone or iTouch can get stuck in Recovery mode and it seems like it might be bricked. Don’t worry, its probably not bricked. There are two very good and very easy methods of kicking your iPhone or iTouch out of Recovery mode: one for Mac and one for Windows.

The Requirements:

  1. iPhone stuck in Recovery mode
  2. or iTouch stuck in Recovery mode
  3. Windows XP, Vista, or 7

The Process:

  1. Download QuickPwn for Windows (it doesn’t matter if its compatible with your firmware version).
  2. Plug in your iPhone and turn it on. It should boot into Recovery mode if you need to use this guide.
  3. Open QuickPwn.
  4. QuickPwn should give you a message about your iPhone being in Recovery Mode and you needing to reboot it. Follow those directions. (Press and hold the Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds to reboot your iPhone.)

Your iPhone should now boot into normal mode. If it doesn’t send me an @reply using TweetBoard to the left or, if you don’t have a Twitter account, post a comment below.

I want to personally send you a HUGE thank you for this information. I have a new Iphone that I got 6 weeks ago, 3 days after the birth of my only child and since then have taken almost all of her photos and videos with this Iphone. Today I finally got around to syncing my Iphone with my computer and the first thing it asked me to do was upgrade the software for my Iphone, which I said yes to. Well, an error occurred during the download of the upgrade and it did not create a backup of my data and it put my phone into recovery mode, although I did not proceed with restore because it said I would lose all my data. I contacted Apple support, talked to 3 different supervisors for an hour and a half, who all told me I was screwed and I should go ahead and proceed with the restore mode because all of my data was lost. I googled get an iphone out of recovery mode, found this info and it worked!!!!! I can’t tell you how grateful and thankful I am for the day that you were born!!! Thank you a million times over, because of you, I now have back the photos and videos for the first 6 weeks of my daughter’s life. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Effin thank you, lightmaster. Lesson learned: do not attempt iPhone OS update under VirtualBox in Linux.
