Our good friend geohot has now created a software unlock for the iPhone 3GS that’s super easy to install and works amazingly! Check out the post on his site for more info about it: http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/2009/07/make-it-ra1n-im-makin-it-sn0w.html.
The Requirements:
- iPhone 3GS
- A legit AT&T SIM card (so you can download purplesn0w)
The Process:
- Jailbreak your iPhone 3GS first if you haven’t already: How to Jailbreak the iPhone 3GS
- Disable 3G if you are going to use a carrier that doesn’t support it yet. (For instance, if you are going to use T-Mobile)
- Open Cydia.
- Click “Manage”.
- Click “Sources”.
- Click “Add”.
- Type in the source: “apt.geohot.com”.
- Click “Add Source”.
- Click “Return to Cydia”.
- Click “Search”.
- Search for “purplesn0w” (that’s “purplesnow” with the number zero in the sn0w part).
- Install “purplesn0w”.
- Reboot your iPhone 3GS.
- Once its booted, swap the AT&T SIM card for your non-official SIM card.
Congrats! You should now have a fully unlocked iPhone 3GS that will work on any carrier.
