by lightmaster on May.31, 2009, under Guides, iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iTouch 1g
The Info:
Alright, so you’ve decided you want to jailbreak your iPhone/iTouch on your Mac using QuickPwn. Here are the advantages and disadvantages to this method:
Advantages:
- You don’t have to restore your iPhone, meaning that you don’t lose any data on it.
- Its a considerably faster process
Disadvantages:
- If your using the iPhone 3G, IT WILL UPDATE YOUR BASEBAND. This means that if you want to unlock your iPhone 3, you will have to downgrade your baseband first.
- You can’t preinstall any packages in Cydia.
The Requirements:
- Mac OS X
- iPhone 2G or iPhone 3G or iTouch 1g
The Process:
(The pictures in this guide were taken while jailbreaking an iPhone 3G, but the process is the same regardless of which device you have)
- Download the following files if you haven’t already:
QuickPwn 2.2.1 for Mac OS X
iPhone 2G 2.2.1 Firmware
iPhone 3G 2.2.1 Firmware
iTouch 1g 2.2.1 Firmware - Connect your iDevice and close iTunes
- Open up QuickPwn
- Click “OK” to the copyright notification

- Click “Ok” to the next message

- QuickPwn will detect your iDevice

- QuickPwn will attempt to automatically find the Restore file on your computer. If it can’t find it, you will have to browse to where you download it to.

- QuickPwn will ask if you want to replace the original boot and restore logos. I personally prefer the QuickPwn logos, but you may choose to keep the original logos if you want.

- QuickPwn will now build the custom restore file that it will use to jailbreak your iDevice. This may take several minutes.

- QuickPwn will ask for your password because it need administrator privileges for some of the process.

- You will need to put your iDevice in DFU mode to continue. QuickPwn will give you steps and a timer to help you.

- QuickPwn will send the necessary files to your iDevice.

- QuickPwn will tell you that it has finished its part and that you shouldn’t touch your iDevice until is has rebooted. This step may take a few minutes.

Congratulations! Once your iDevice has rebooted, you will be jailbroken and you can install jailbroken software through Cydia.
